Saturday April 13th, 2019
We reach Ferrara by car and park near the center (at south). From here we start walking through the central streets, passing by via delle Volte, until we reach the main square with the Cathedral, the Town Hall and the Clock Tower. Unfortunately the Cathedral is being restored and cannot be visited internally. We continue through the central streets passing by some churches (S. Romano, S. Francesco, S. Girolamo and S. Maria in Vado) up to the Palazzo Schifanoia (also in restoration).
We go back to the car and reach our hotel (Hotel Carlton, near the castle). After leaving our bags, by car we go to the Certosa. We visit it. Then we walk along Corso Ercole I d’Este, we reach the Palazzo dei Diamanti and then the Estense Castle. We have enough time to visit it before closing. Before dinner we go back to the car and bring it close to the hotel. After dinner we walk a little to take photos of the illuminated monuments.
Sunday April 14th, 2019
It’s time to leave Ferrara and continue our journey, so we reach Comacchio. We begin the visit of the city starting from the Duomo, then we pass by the Loggia del Grano and walk along the numerous canals that cross the city. Then we arrive at the famous point where the canals cross, Trepponti and then we pass by the ancient hospital. Before leaving the city we walk along a secondary road to reach an area just to the south with lakes, sea and canals.
Returning to the car we head to Pomposa to visit the famous abbey. After the visit we would like to have lunch but the restaurants around the abbey are full or closed. Then we proceed to our next destination looking for an open place. We stop in Mesola and have lunch. We continue to Chioggia, walk along the main street and return to the car from a parallel road, admiring the palaces, churches and canals. In the evening we return home.
