2019 – Livigno with Alpisella and Val Nera

Saturday August 10th, 2019

We usually go to Livigno in one day. This year we decided to stop for the weekend. We booked at the last minute and it was hard to find a place. Most hotels are full. We chose an apartment at the beginning of the town. We arrive in Livigno in the late morning. Although it is a little early to go to the apartment, we ask at the reception, we are lucky, it is ready.

We leave our luggages at home, we go by car to the dairy where we park. From here we continue by foot (flat, through the woods) to the Alpisella hut (it takes about half an hour). The hut is by the lake. There are a lot of people, we wait a little and have lunch. Later we return to our apartment.

This time I go out, I see some shops (I would like to buy a lens for my camera), then I go back to the house. We take the car and go towards the Forcola pass, we park at P12 and from here we go to Alpe Vago (there is a hut that sells cheese).

It is quite close to the parking lot, so we continue towards the Val Nera waterfall (very beautiful, even if the best light should be in the morning). We stop a bit, take some pictures of the waterfall, the mountains and the valley. We go back to Alpe Vago and stop to have a snack (salami and cheese platter). Then we take a break at the apartment and go out for dinner.

Evening

After dinner, we stroll through the central streets, in the afternoon we had seen posters for the “black night”, tonight all the lights are turned off and there are some shows (some stalls sell torches and lanterns). We see some children in costumes singing and dancing and an historical re-enactment. Then we get to the great fire that was lit early. Here too we approach to take photos. Then we go back to the apartment and go to sleep.

It’s a bit cloudy, it looks like it’s going to rain. We are looking for a bar to have breakfast, then we go to Mass in a nearby church. At the end, we go back to the apartment to get our bags and free it. We get in the car a bit on the hill. From there we descend by foot, walk along a cycle / pedestrian road. When we arrive almost at the bottom, we go to the main street and look at some shops as we return to the car. We stop for lunch.

In the afternoon we continue to see some shops, then we pick up the car and go up to Trepalle. Now there is a beautiful sun, we walk a little along a fairly flat path to admire the view. We thought we could also see the Livigno lake, but it remains hidden. We make a stop in Isolaccia to have an ice-cream, then we continue towards home, where we arrive for dinner.
