Friday April 6th, 2018 – Across Denmark from Roskilde to Mons Klimt
I have visited Denamrk some times, so already knew many of the places of this trip. But I always missed one of the most famous places of Denmark (Mons Klimt). After getting the car we rented, we drive to Roskilde. It’s morning. We visit the Roskilde Cathedral with all the royal tombs. We spend there the whole morning.
After lunch we drive to south to go to Mons Klimt, but before reaching the cliffs, we stop in Keldby and Elmelunde to visit two churces with some frescoes inside (they are pretty similar).
Later we reach Mons Klimt. We leave the car in the parking (pretty expensive) and we walk down the 400 steps. The cliffs are already in the shadows, the steps are a lot, and the info about the various path pretty poor.
So after trying to search another path to go back to the parking, we are forced to climb again those 400 steps. I expected something better, I was disappointed. We go back to Roskilde where we have dinner and stop for the night. Our hotel was the Scandic Roskilde, also here I was a bit disappointed, the double bed was pretty small for 2 people.
Saturday April 7th, 2018 – Around Denmark’s castles
Today we will visit some castles. The first one is the Frederiskborg Slot in Hillerod. The castle is on an island, while the gardens and the parks are on the other side of the lake. We walk around the castle, to the main court, and to the gardens. Before starting our trip, we decided not to visit this castle inside, but we will visit another one in the afternoon.
We briefly stop in Fredensborg where there is another castle to take some pics. Then we arrive in Helsingor. Before the castle we visit the city center with the Domkirke and St. Mariae Kirke.
Later we visit the castle (this time inside) and we climb up one of the towers for the landscape. In the afternoon we go to Copenhagen airport to return the car, and then to city center.
Our hotel, Maritime Hotel is so-so, but it’s in wonderful position, really near to Nyhavn (the canal you see on all Copenhagen pictures). We walk a bit in Nyhavn, and to Amalienborg (a building consisting of 4 identical palaces on a square). We have dinner near the hotel and then we take some more pictures to Nyhavn with the lights.
Sunday April 8th, 2018
Today we will visit the main spots of Copenhagen. We start from Nyhavn (again), and to Amalaienborg. From there we can see in the distance the Frederikskirke (the church with the big dome) and then we continue to St. Alban, near the Gefion fountain.
We reach another super known spot, the little Mermaid. Even if it’s still early, there are already a lot of tourists taking pictures. To go back, we decide to walk across the Kastellet, with its yellow and red barracks. At a short distance there is the Nyboder district. Many of the charateristics yellow buildings are being renovated.
Through Kongens Have (a park) we reach Rosenborg Castle (there is a long queue to visit it). We would like to see the Alexander Nevsky Kirke (an ortodox church) but it’s closed. So we continue to Frederikskirke (it should be possible to climb up the Dome on Sunday but when we arrive the ticket are finished. It’s a pity, we just look at the dome from inside. Back to Nyhavn and to the hotel. We go to Christianshavn and climb up the spiral tower of the Vor Frelsers Kirke.
Then we reach the Opera and back to the hotel. We still have some time, so we go to Holmens Kirke, to the Borsen and to the Bibliotek. At Christiansborg Slot we would like to go up the tower, but also here we have no luck, it’s too late. We walk back and stop at the “Black Diamond”. We have dinner in Nyhavn and later we walk along the Stroget, before going to sleep.
Monday April 9th, 2018
Last day of our trip. In the morning we walk along the Stroget and the surroundings, seeing some churches and squares (Helligands Kirke, Grabrodretorv, Vor Frue Kirke, St. Petri Kirke, Gammeltorv) and we reach the Town Hall. We look a bit inside (they are preparing for a wedding) and then we climb up the tower (finally this time we can climb to see the landscape).
Then we walk back, we stop in some shops (like Illum and Lego Store) to reach the Rundetaarn and the near Trinitatis Kirke. We have some time before going to the airport, so we decide to go for a boat tour. After it, we go back to the hotel to take the luggages and go to the airport.
