Sirmione is a very nice town on the Garda lake with a castle (Rocca Scaligera) and ruins of an ancient roman building. We went there by car pretty early, there are always many people in Sirmione in the weekends, so we wanted to be there early to find a near parking and to start to visit the town with few people.
Then we started to visit Sirmione from the Rocca Scaligera, that is near the main gate of the old town. While inside, we climbed up the main tower to take a look on the lake and the Sirmione peninsula.
Grotte di Catullo are the ruins of a roman building, on three levels on the northern point of Sirmione peninsula. It offers beautiful landscapes over the lake, the ruins and olive trees that grow around the area. It was very nice to walk there but the hours passed fast, it was already lunch time when we finished to see the Grotte, so we took a break at the bar near the entrance of the archeological area.
We walked a bit more in the town, before taking the car to go to San Martino della Battaglia, a near town famous for a batlle. Here we visited the musuem and climbed up the tower to see some more landscapes.
Then another short break for an ice-cream and then back at home. It was really a nice day, with great weather, beautiful places and everything was perfect.
