2017 – Legnoncino at the sunset

Legnoncino for me is a classical short walk, I do it often in summer times.

My friend called me with this idea: going to Legnoncino in late afternoon, wait there for the sunset, wait for the darkness to see the stars and back home. I have never been at mountains at night, so it was something new. And so I immediately accepted.
It takes a bit to reach the place from home (more or less 1h30). We parked the car near the rifugio Roccoli Lorla, and started to walk. The path is really easy, a muletrack in the woods. It takes around 35-40 minutes to get at the top. Before reaching the top, we stopped for some pictures (the sun was still shining) near the picnic area and near the little church.

Then we waited on the top for the sunset. It was pretty windy and the wind was cold. In the wood it was pretty warm, but on the top it was freezing. It was a wonderful sunny day, so also the sunset was great, we could see mountains in the distance like Monviso and Monterosa. Under us we could see Como lake and on the other side, Valsassina and Monte Legnone.
It was really great to be there, seeing the sunset and down, on the lake, see the towns light slowly. And then the stars that we cannot see from city. Really wonderful sights.
So later we walked back to the car. We had torches, but it wasn’t so dark (the moon was behind the mountain, but it was possible to see the path due to its light), and then back home.
It was funny to go there in a different time, and we were really lucky to get such a great sunny day. Surely a great experience to repeat in the future.
