2017 – Alpine passes in Switzerland

Two days in Switzerland for the weekend, going to Furkapass and Sustenpass. We will spend two days across some mountains passes with fantastic landscape.

Saturday July 15th, 2017

We go by car, we reach the Gotthard Pass, where we stop, walk around a little, admire the view, and walk along the lake. We continue towards the Furkapass. Here we visit the ice cave that is excavated every year in the Rhone glacier. There is cold air near the glacier.

After lunch, we descend into the valley below and go up through the Grimselpass. We stop to take pictures to the marmots inside an enclosure and just below the dam divided into two parts by a rocky spur. We arrive at Meiringen and finally we get some sun. Nearby, in Hofstetten we booked the hotel. Later we go to Brienz, walk along the lakefront and return to the hotel for dinner. Before going to sleep we walk around the village and discover that there is a great open air theatrical representation.

Another day in Switzerland. We go to Interlaken, we stop near the castle. We see it externally passing through the courtyards and entering the nearby church. Then we go to the center of the town from where we see the Jungfrau in the middle of the clouds. We drive to Unterseen where there are some channels and dams.

At Meiringen we take the funicular Reichenbachfall that takes us to the waterfall of the same name where Doyle would have set the death of Sherlock Holmes. The funicular leaves us at the foot of the waterfall; from here, with a path we climb above, where a bridge allows us to see it from above.
We descend again to Meiringen and go into the Aare gorge, the Aareschlucht. The gorge is very beautiful with steep walls above our heads and the water of a beautiful blue-green color. So we leave the town, go up to the Susten Pass (we stop briefly) and return home in the evening.
