2008 – A short weekend around London

Short weekend in London. We arrived late in the evening on Friday and had the flight back to Italy on Monday morning (in the afternoon we were working at office)

Friday March 7th, 2008

We arrive late in the evening, take a bus to Victoria station and go to the hotel (near the Tower of London).

It’s cloudy and a bit cold. We are near, so we start from the Tower of London. We decide not to visit it inside, mainly due to the few time we have. So after walking around it and taking many pics, we cross the Tower bridge and go on the other side of the Thames. We pass by the new City Hall and reach an ancient wharf, now a roofed shopping center. We walk a bit in the area, then cross again the Thames, to the Bank of England and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

We visit it inside, with the crypt, where there are many tombs of importnat people and climb up the dome. The view is nice, but it’s still cloudy. Then we see the Court of Justice, the Somerset House, Trafalgar Square (where I buy a teddy bear for a friend), Downing Street and reach Westminster (Palace and Abbey). We see at distance the London Eye. Then Buckingham Palace, St. James Park and Covent Garden. In the evening we see Soho and Piccadilly Circus. And back to St. Paul’s Cathedral for the pics. This was just one day but we walked really a lot.

Today we visit Notting Hill, then we reach Kensington Palace with its park, passing by numerous embassies. Not far there is the Albert Memorial, and the Royal Albert Hall.

We reach the Natural History Museum, and enter to see the T-rex in the main hall. We spend almost all the remaining time inside the British Museum. In the evening we are back to Westminster for the sunset.

Monday March 10th, 2008

We arrive in advance at the airport. But they call our flight because a violent storm is approaching. So we take off a bit in advance, before the storm and are back at home. Few hours later the aiport was closed due to the storm.
