2009 – Vienna: Cold and snow

Friday January 2nd, 2009
Departure to Bratislava in the morning. Unfortunately when we arrive at the airport we have to wait about 2 hours for the shuttle that takes us to Vienna. Left our luggages at the hotel, we start to visit the city: Stephansdom, Graben, Peterskirche, Hofburg, Michaelerkirche, Burgtheater, Rathaus, Parlament.


It’s cold and then we decide to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum where we spend most of the afternoon. After dinner, we walk in the enlighted streets of downtown, before returning to the hotel. It’s snowing a little.

Saturday January 3rd, 2009
In the morning we visit the Postsparkasse, we see also near to it St. Barbara, the Bernhardskapelle, the Basiliskenhaus, Alte Universitat, and the Jesuitenkirche Griechische Kirche.

We see then the Ruprechtskirche, but it’s closed. Then we cross the Hoher Markt and Judenplatz. At a short distance there are also the Kirche am Hof, on the Freyung Sthe chottenkirche and slightly far the Votiv kirche. Returning to the center we see the Minoritenkirche and the buildings around the square. Then I meet with my friend in Vienna and two hours pass pleasantly with her walking through the streets.

After a quick lunch we go to the Kirche am Steinhof, a little far, but well connected by public transport. Back downtown, we visit the area behind the Rathaus with Ulrichskirche. We have dinner near the Graben and then back to the hotel.

Sunday January 4th, 2009

When we wake up, we go to the Hundertwasser Haus, then the Secession, the Majolikahaus, Karlplatz and Belvedere palace. We have lunch and we visit the palace of Schonbrunn and its gardens, where we meet with our other 2 friends.

Dinner with them and then walk again in the center.

Monday January 5th, 2009
In the morning we reach the Danube and with a little surprise we see it’s icy. Then we go to University and we enter the Rathaus. Then we visit the exhibition of Klimt at the Belvedere.

In the afternoon we leave Vienna and we go to Bratislava. It snows, but it’s beautiful walking through the whited streets. Dinner with our friends in Bratislava, near the theater.

Tuesday January 6th, 2009
In the morning there is still some snow, although it is melting. We walk through the center: Namesti SNP, Primacialny palace, Stara Radnice, the square Hlavne namestie, the Cumil, Slovenske divadlo in Narodne Hviezdoslavovo namestie, the cathedral Sv Martina.

We have time to visit it before the start of the Mass, the pedestrian walkways and the Michalska brana. Then we cross the river and we go to Au Park (mall) and we heated a little. After lunch we return to the center, we see the Modry kostolik (only the outside, unfortunately it’s Closed), we take back our bags and we go to the airport.

The flight takes off with more than 3.5 hours of delay because in Orio al Serio it’s snowing a lot.
