2010 – Stockholm: under the swedish sun

Short trip to Stockholm, in April with sun and warm (a bit cold only in the evening).

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

We should leave in the morning and arrive in Stockholm in the early afternoon, but unfortunately the flight is delayed a few hours. After passing the hotel, we go up the hill behind it and reach the Katarina kyrka. We admire the view over the city. Now it’s dark, stroll through the streets of Gamla Stan, the central island.

It’s a beautiful day. We get up early and begin our visit trying to recover the lost hours of yesterday because of the delay. We begin going to Katarina kyrka and Katarinahissen. Then we explore Gamla Stan all along its streets where we encounter the Tyska kyrkan, the Storkyrkan, the Royal Palace. We go then to the Riksdagshuset, the National Museum and reach the island of Skeppsholmen.

From there we continue and reach Djurgarden, the island on which there are several museums like Skansen and Vaasa and the Grona Lund amusement park. It’s nice to walk in the sun in the middle of the nature. In the afternoon we return to the center, we pass by and visit Jakobskyrka and Tyska kyrkan inside.

We go then to the island of Riddarholmen, where there is the Riddarholmskyrkan, the church where Swedish kings and queens are buried. Not far away there is the City Hall, the building where the Nobel Prizes are awarded. Then we walk in the shopping streets. Returning to the center we see Adolf Fredrikskyrka and Konserthuset. Finally we walk a little in Gamla Stan.

Today we explore Stureplan area (across Gamla Stan), and reach the Kungliga Biblioteket. We visit the royal palace inside (and outside there is a military parade), but we can not visit the Cathedral because they are preparing for the wedding of the princess to be held later this year. In the afternoon we take the shuttle which brings us back to the airport.
