Thursday December 1st, 2016
We land in the morning and go immediately to our hotel (Castle Inn). It’s near the castle (on the same square). The entrance is a small door, but inside the hotel is good, the price is ok, and also the room is nice (we can see the castle from the windows). The idea for the afternoon would be to see the two palaces, Wilanow and Lazienki, but maybe it was a bit too much (after all it’s december and it gets dark early).
So first of all we go by bus to Wilanow Palace, we visit it inside, there are really few people, and we see also the gardens, but it’s the wrong season, so there are no flower. While we see the park, it becomes dark, so we can take some pictures with the lights.
Going back to Warsaw we stop to Kosciol sw. Krzyza, where there is Chopin’s tomb, then to Zamek Krolewski (Castle square) and the pedestrian streets till the Barbakan. It’s snowing a bit.
Friday December 2nd, 2016
There is snow on the ground. Again in the pedestrian area, visiting some churches like Archikatedra sw. Jana and Kosciol Jezuitow, the square Rynek Starego Miasta and some more churches (Kosciol sw. Ducha, Kosciol sw. Jacka, Kosciol sw. Kazimierza and Kosciol Nawiedzenia Najswietszej Marii Panny).
Then we see some parts of the jewish quartier, the ghetto wall, the momument “Pomnik Poleglym i Pomordowanym na Wschodzie” and the POLIN Muzeum. We go back to the city center through the Krasinskich Park.
At Ogrod Saski, we see many people, the Ukrainan president is there for a visit. We go then to Palac Kultury i Nauki and go up till the last floor (by lift) to see a nice sunset over an iced city. Before the dinner, we see the Chopin Museum.
After dinner I have to wait some time but at the end I meet my wonderful friend Dorota and spend some hours with her. I’m happy to have met her one more time, it’s always nice.
Saturday December 3rd, 2016
Today it’s sunny, we go to visit the Lazienki Palace (in the park there are some peacocks) and then the park. We walk along Nowy Swiat and the we cross the river to see the Praga quartier and the ortodox church Cerkiew Metropolitalna Sw. Marii Magdaleny.
In the evening we go up the tower bell of St. Anne (Kosciol sw. Anny), and walk again in the pedestrian streets.
Sunday December 4th, 2016
Last day of our wonderful trip. We start from the university, we would like to climb up to the roof, but it’s closed (maybe due to the snow, or maybe because it’s Sunday). Some walking again in the main streets, at the Christmas market and then we go to visit the castle. After lunch we take our luggages and go back to the airport by taxi.
