Friday September 23rd, 2005
Departure on friday evening. We meet ouserlves to the airport of Orio al Serio, destination Hahn (Frankfurt). It begins well, in joy (N:”We are moving, we are leaving” I:”We are staying”) and laughs and jokes. The flight is in perfect timetable, and lands without problems.
We reserved a car, a Volkswagen Multivan, the first one to attempt to guide it, it’s Luca. In spite of the dimensions, we don’t have problems and we leave with destination Mannheim, where we will be able to rest in hotel. It takes more we expected, but however we arrive, we leave our baggages and we head to the center in order to have dinner. It is a little late and at the end, being nearly all the places already closed, we choose a “typical” McDonald’s. Then we return to hotel, ready to begin our cultural-food visit.
Saturday September 24th, 2005
We wake up early and we have breakfast in the center while we visit the city: between other monuments, the Wasserturm surrounded by flowers and the castle.
In late morning we leave again for the real goal of our travel: Heidelberg (and in particular the Herb Fest). It’s a beautiful city and in this weekend the Herb Fest is on, a traditional event that fills up the streets of the city with stalls and people. We pass the morning between the visit of monuments and the stalls of the Herb Fest.
The main street, the Haupstrasse is very crowded and we go on slowly, losing the other members of the group many times. We exit from the crowd and we head to the Kornhaus. Then the Alte brucke. At last we go in the center to the Heiliggeistkirche, and the other streets crowded of stalls. We eat an unforgettable sandwich with giant meat. And so we pass the main part of the day, before visiting the university.
Then in the afternoon, with the funicular, we climb up to the castle. There we visit it and after having admired the wonderful sightseeing. We come down back in the city center of Heidelberg and we decide to head towards Stuttgart, stopping to see two or three castles we find along the road.
Towards 10,00p.m. we arrive in Stuttgart, but with a little disappointment we notice that there is few animation. We go around for a little in the center and then we go back to Mannheim to sleep.
Sunday September 25th, 2005
Today we go to Mainz, where we can see the wonderful cathedral. Inside it, we assist to the holy celebration in german. Also in Mainz there is an event with a lot of stalls. After lunch we stop in Wiesbaden, and also here another event.
So, we end our weekend going back to the airport.
