2008 – Trier: Only one day

This is the first time we try to do a daily trip. We choose Hahn to go to Luxembourg and Trier. It was a nice experience to repeat. We wanted to visit especially Trier, where I had alaredy been in the past, but wanted to go back to see it again.

Saturday March 29th, 2008

First journey in a single day. We reach early Hahn, not yet 8am. We rent a car and immediately go to Luxembourg.

When we arrive many shops are still closed, but later the city comes alive. We stop in a short distance from the cathedral of Notre Dame and walk through the centre. All the streets are rather crowded and shops (including banks, despite Saturday) are open. It’s nice to walk without a precise goal. Then we have lunch. After lunch we head to the nearby Trier (we already were there few months ago): the Hauptmarkt with St. Gangolf, the cathedral St. Peter and the Liebfrauenkirche and in a short distance the Porta Nigra.

We don’t want to walk and so we reach the Roman Baths by car. Back to the airport, but it is still early and then we make a little trip in the campaigns around with the characteristic villages. We then head toward the Rhine Valley, Bacharach is the first town we find, we walk along the main street and then we stop for the dinner in a restaurant. Dinner requires more time than expected, and we are worried about losing the flight, but we arrive to the airport just in time to return home.

It would have been nice to have more time, but this one-day trip was fun. With the super cheap flight tickets, we surely will do some more daily trips.
