2008 – Barcelona: hot and sunny in January

This weekend: Barcelona. Another trip during the weekend (saturday-morning) spend in Barcelona. Hot weather. Fantastic.

We got a good deal on the flights, so we booked for a short weekend in Barcelona in January. We land in Girona and take the bus to Barcelona. Then we reach our hotel and leave the luggages. After lunch we go to visit Casa Batllò.

It was designed by Antoni Gaudí. All the lines are curve, you won’t find straight lines there or vivid corners. Other than the shape we could admire the original ideas of Gaudì, that were innovative at his time. We stop then at Palau de la Musica, before reaching the cathedral. Inside the cathedral there is a courtyard with some geese. At dinner we go to Barcelona and have it at a restaurant on the beach. We walk a bit after dinner and back to the hotel.

Today we see Casa Vicens (only outside) and then to Sagrada Familia. There is a bit to wait but not so much. We enter it and go up the tower. I was here more than 20 years ago, I see many changes, they are still building it (following the original drawing).

We continue in the city center: Casa Calvet, La Pedrera, Arc de Triomf, Parc de la Ciutadella, Palau de la Generalitat and Santa Maria del Pi.

Today we go up the hill of Montjuic, where there is a fortress and some sport facilities used during the Olimpyc Games. Then we go down to the harbour area, walk around Ramblas.

Unfortunately our time is over, so after lunch we must go back to Girona for our flight. The trip was 2 days and half, we walked a lot, trying to go almost everywhere by foot because the weather was perfect.
