2016 – Budapest: a long friendship

Another time in Budapest, but first time I see Margherit’s Island, where we spend half a day, and meeting with my friend Fanny, that lives there.

We land in the afternoon, we reach our hotel where we leave the bags and go out. Budapest’s airport has a good bus connection with the city center. The hotel we chose is located near St. Istvan Basilica. We immediately reach the Chain Bridge and take some photos of the buildings along the Danube.

We go back to the hotel briefly, where we bring our suitcases to our room and when we go out we immediately visit the cathedral. Then we reach the Parliament, and we see the Lapidarium Museum. We walk a bit in the center, taking some photos of the lit city before and after dinner.

We go by underground to the Varosliget park, which is behind the Heroes Square. As soon as we leave the subway we head to the nearby thermal baths, Szechenyi Gyogyfurdo.

We go in to admire the entrance of the palace, then walk through the park to Vajdahunyad Var, a castle built in various styles, and arrive at the Heroes Square (Hosok Tere). Later, we walk down the Andrassy Ut to admire the palaces and after lunch we go (by bus) to the citadel.

We do not enter the citadel, but we turn around, admire the landscape, walk down to the Gellert Spa, cross the river and enter the covered market. When we exit from it, we walk through Vaci utca and return to the hotel.

We take a break and then go out to meet my dear friend Fanny. Along with her we walk a bit across the Chain Bridge and climb up to the Matyas Templom and Fisherman’s Bastion.

Unfortunately, she has little time, she has to work, but the time with her company is very pleasant. After having greeted her, we take a few photos to the Parliament and to the Chain Bridge and then we go for dinner.

Immediately after breakfast we go to Buda to visit the hill area. We start from the church, the Matyas Templom, then the Budavari Palace, the Fishermen’s Bastion and the Hungarian Archives (Magyar orszagos leveltar).

Then we descend and reach the Margherita island (pretty far, by foot), we walk in it for a while, taking a stop in the park (especially to the fountain listening to the music).

We go back from the other side of the river, and before stopping at the hotel, we see the synagogue a short distance away. After evening photos from Buda to the city and various monuments of the high part of the city.

Today it’s raining. We decide to see Parliament, but when we get to the entrance there are so many people. We buy tickets, but we have to wait quite a while before entering.

Therefore we decide to spend time seeing a museum, the Magyar Nemzeti Muzeum. After the visit to the museum, we return to the Parliament, now it’s almost time for the visit (in Italian).

After the visit, we return to our hotel to pick up our suitcases and go to the airport.
