2018 – Bremen, Lubeck and Hamburg

4 days in Bremen, Lubeck and Hamburg, spending most of the time in Hamburg and visiting Miniatur Wunderland.

Friday April 20th, 2018

As we land in Bremen, we go to the main hall of the airport to see the model of the ISS hanging from the ceiling, then we take the car. We have some problems to exit the parking, because the guy at the desk gave us for 2 times a non-working ticket. We drive till our hotel and leave the luggages.

Even if it’s late, we decide to go out, to get some pictures. We walk through the Schnoor, the quartier with small streets and charateristic houses. While we walk, we get hungry, so we stop at McDonald’s to eat something, before taking more pictures. Then we go back to the hotel and we go to sleep.

Saturday April 21st, 2018 – Bremen

We cannot leave the car near the hotel, because the parking limit is too short (I think it’s 1-2 hours), so we decide to move it. We have some difficulties to find a parking where we can leave the car for the whole day. At the end we find a good spot near the Park Wallanlagen.

From there we cross the river, the public library and back to the Schnoor. We cross again this area to see it with all the shops open. Along the river Weser, where the are many restuarants and bars. We reach St. Martini and through the Bottcherstrasse with its famous bells, we go to the main square. Here there are the main buildings, like the Cathedral, the Town Hall, the statue of Roland (the local hero) and on one side of the townhall, the statue of the Bremen Musicians. We enter the Dom St. Petri, we visit it inside. We start climbing up the tower bell to see the landscape over the city, then the church inside and at last the Bleikeller. Here there are some mummies.

We relax walking in the park, till the windmill. At lunch we stop at one of the numerous restaurants along the Weser. In the afternoon we go to the Botanic Gardens.

In the late afternoon we arrive in Lubeck. The hotel is near to Holstentor, so we move by foot. After the pictures to the famous gate, we walk in the city center, around the Rathaus, and wait for the sunset to take some more pics with the river.

Sunday April 22nd, 2018 – Lubeck

We go back to the Holstentor, and the near warehouses. Today we reach the Heiligen-Geist-Hospital, but first we stop at Niederegger to buy some marzipan. The hospital is under renovation, so it’s not possible to see the rooms, but only the main hall. The Burgtor is at a short distance, so we reach it, and then we go back and see some churches, and the Buddenbrook House.

We visit the Marienkirche (outside there is funny statue of the devil – linked to a local legend). After seeing St. Jakob, we take a break for lunch near the river. In the afternoon we see the Dom, and then we climb up by lift the tower bell of St. Petri. It’s time to leave Lubeck and reach Hamburg airport to return the car, and then by metro we reach our hotel. We go to Wasserschloss to take some pictures. We walk a bit because we don’t find it. Then we go near Town Hak for dinner. Many restaurants are already closed, so it takes some time. At the end we find a steakhouse. Later we go back to the hotel.

Monday April 23rd, 2018 – Hamburg

We start exploring Hamburg from St. Jakobi with its famous organ, the Chilehaus, with the ship shape, St. Katharinen, the docks, the ruins of St. Nikolai to the Town Hall and around the city center.

In the afternoon we go to the Blankenese, Altona suburbs and to the harbour area. In the evening we take some more pictures around the Town Hall and the Binnenalster Lake.

Tuesday April 24th, 2018 – Hamburg

In the morning we walk with a precise destination, around the pedestrian streets, in the docks area, and around Aussenalster Lake.

Then we visit the Miniatur Wunderland where we spend almost the whole afternoon. When we finish we go to the Elbphilharmonie. It’s possible to visit it inside too, and go up to the terrace. We go for dinner at St. Pauli.
