Wednesday April 8th, 2015
I return to Krakow, I always enjoy it, especially for a friend of mine who lives in Krakow. We arrive in the late afternoon, it’s cloudy. We begin to walk in the center and a little later we meet my friend.
From the main square, Rynek Glowny, we continue towards the Wawel Hill royal palace. We would like to visit it, but it’s closing and the staff invite us to exit. We continue aimlessly, and after a while my friend goes home and we go sightseeing, even after dinner.
Thursday April 9th, 2015
Today is a beautiful sunny day and with my friend we go to Tyniec, a small suburb of Krakow in which there is a monastery. Unfortunately in the church there is a funeral, so we cannot visit it.
We wait for the museum to open, we visit it and then we go back to Krakow. In the afternoon my friend has some lectures, so after greeting her, we continue the visit of Krakow, going to the Jewish Quarter with its many synagogues, the Old Jewish Cemetery and several churches. We return to the Wawel and before getting on the hill, we visit St. Bernard church. Then we visit the whole area of Wawel, with the cathedral and the royal palace (in this period within the royal palace the “Lady with an Ermine” by Leonardo is exposed.
We take a quick break at the hotel and then we go out to dinner.
Friday April 10th, 2015
As we get up, we go immediately to visit Wieliczka Salt Mines. Upon arriving, immediately a tour in Italian begins. There aren’t many people, and so we can see well the mines, stopping to take a lot of pictures. After visiting the mines, we also see the museum (underground, inside the mines).
We stay a bit in Wieliczka: in the main square on the floor there is a painting that reproduces the mines. Then we go back to Krakow and to Nowa Huta, a neighborhood very different from the historical center. In a short distance, in Mogila there is the church of St. Bartholomew, the oldest wooden church in Poland, and in front of it a Cistercian monastery.
Back to the center we see some churches and then we go to dinner. Unfortunately today I didn’t meet my friend.
Saturday April 11th, 2015
The last day of our trip. We spend almost all the time with my friend. It’s nice to spend time with her: we still see some churches, the university, Collegium Maius, and back in the Rynek Glowny to climb the tower from which we admire the view on the city. We return to Collegium Maius at 11 to see the clock with its moving figures in the main courtyard.
Before leaving Krakow, we still miss to see the Cathedral, but we have to wait around 12 at the end of the Mass. We no longer have any destination, so we walk a little in the center, and have lunch. At 3 pm we say bye to my friend, we take your bags and go to the airport. This trip was especially nice for the company of my friend whom I thank and I hope to see again soon.
