2006 – Rome: Eternal city

Saturday May 6th, 2006

This time we left on saturday morning in order to arrive to Rome towards the thirteen. After having left the baggages in the hotel, we head to Palatino in order to visit it, employing nearly all the afternoon. The Palatino is very calm and more wide than it can seem.

Then we enter the Colosseo and we stay there until the closing time. The day passes in a hurry. We take a walk in center, passing from Piazza Venezia, via del Corso, the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna.

As soon as we awake, we go towards Fori (than we have not seen yesterday), stopping to S. Maria Maggiore and S. Pietro in Vincoli, then we visit the Foro Romano, the Altare della Patria, S. Maria in Ara Coeli and the Musei Capitolini.

Also today the day passes in a hurry, but we have still the time in order to see the Teatro Marcello, S. Maria in Cosmedin and the Isola Tiberina.

Also today we raise soon, knowing that we will have to make a little queue in order to enter in the Musei Vaticani where we pass good part of the day, then we see only externally Castel S. Angelo, before climbing up on the dome of S. Pietro and the visit to the church.

Then we meet with our friend Nicoletta (with which we have dinner) and we return then in Piazza di Spagna, where we listen to some boys singing.

It’s the last day of our short stay in Rome. When we leave the hotel it’s raining enough strongly, but when we arrive to S. Giovanni in Laterano it has already stopped, even if there are yet many clouds. In Terme di Caracalla there are few tourists, surely with the sun it would be pleasant to visit this place dipped in the green. We pass again in front of S. Pietro, Castel S. Angelo and Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi and Piazza di Spagna.

Few minutes before taking the train, Nicoletta comes to say us goodbye. There are a lot of other things to see, but we had only four days and we could not do more, but we can always return.
