2006 – Stockholm: For the first time to the North

First time to a nordic country, for a weekend to Stockholm. This city is really one of the most wonderful places I have ever been.

Friday November 24th, 2006

Long time I wanted to go in the Nordic countries. And then finally I go. Starting Friday evening, we arrive at Stockholm at midnight and then we take the shuttle to the city. For now we go to sleep.

Although it is November, the temperature is not so low, and there is the sun. Start our exploration of this wonderful city starting from Gamla Stan with its churches and the royal palace. We lose nicely between small streets, crowded by people and shops before reaching Kungliga Slottet (the royal palace), where we spend a lot of time. Then we visit the nearby Storkyrkan with the statue of St. George and the dragon, then to Riddarholmen, but unfortunately at this time the church is closed.

We cross the bridge to go on Sodermalm and Katarinahissen from where we admire the sightseeing of the city. We are already in the upper part, so we visit the surrounding area with Katarinakirka, then go down, and we return to Gamla Stan, where we have dinner before returning to the hotel.

There is only half a day left, and since we cannot go to Stockholm without seeing the Vasa, we take the ferry to Djungarden, on which stands Grona Lund amusement park (we pass through it quickly), we explore the island in less frequented areas, we reach Rosendals Slott and finally VasaMuseet which we visit in its entirety.

Back to ferry and we give a final view to the city (from Katarinahissen) and leave the city with the hope of returning.
