2009 – Bruxelles: Chocolate

Saturday February 14th, 2009
Also this time, daily trip to Bruxelles. At Charleroi’s airport, we use the coach bus to Bruxelles (it’s a bit expensive). We arrive at the train station “du Midi”, where we start our visit.

We decide to walk, distances aren’t big. So we walk through one of the great streets towards the center. When we reach Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Secours, we leave the main street and through narrow roads, we reach the Grand Place to see the wonderful palaces surrounding it. We spend some time in the place, full of tourists. At lunch we eat in a near brasserie, where they have home-made beer.

After lunch we see the stock exchange palace and the near St. Nicolas. Then we go to the cathedral, St. Michel et Goude, but first we stop at St. Hubert Hall, where some shops have stands outside and they give heart-shaped chocolate (it’s Valentine’s) After seeing the cathedrale we go to the comics museum (a lot of authors are from Belgium). We go to the upper part of the city, to the Parc de Bruxelles with the Palais de la nation and the Palais royal. Crossing the Place royale, we reach Notre-Dame du Sablon and the near Notre-Dame-de-la-Chapelle.

We go back to the Grand Place stopping at the Mannekin Pis. As we still have some time (shuttle bus is at 17.45), we walk a bit in the shopping streets. We are near to the Beguinhof so we decide to see it. We see also St. Catherine’s church. We go back to the station, we eat a bit and then we wait few minutes for the bus to go back to the airport.

We land in Orio al Serio half an hour in advance.
