2009 – Rhein: A day on the river

Daily trip to Rhein. We did it sometimes, flight times are really good and allow us to have a full day along the river and in Koblenz. It could sound weird to go somewhere in the morning and coming back in the evening (in this case in Germany), but landing early in the morning (around 8am) and taking off late in the evening (around 10pm) and short distances make it possible and very enjoyable. Our typical daily tour at Rhein is: from airport, going to Oberwesel, up to Koblenz, landascape at Loreley and from Kaub ferry boat to cross back the Rhein, dinner and back to airport.

Another quick daily trip. Like other times we land at Hahn in the morning and with the car we reach the first stop in Oberwesel with its red church that stands against the blue sky.

We make another brief stop in St. Goar and Boppard: St. Severus, the Markt and the Karmeliterkirche. Our journey continues in Koblenz.

We leave the car and wereach the Deutsches Eck and the Kaiser Wilhelm Denkmal. Nearby there is the church of St. Kastor and a little further St. Florin. We walk in the pedestrian streets where we see the Liebfrauenkirche, Vier Turme, Am Plan and the Jesuitenkirche.

There are many ice cream shops full of people. We descend along the opposite bank of the Rhine to Loreley where we can see the river from above. At Kaub we take the ferry back to the other side. Here we see the Peterskirche and the Altes Haus. We climb on foot to the Werner Chapel and even up to the fortress Stahleck.

Admiring the view, we go down and after an excellent dinner back to the airport.
