2009 – Berlin: Pergamon is here

I like to do daily trips (this time to Berlin), especially when they are on Saturday and I can find cheap flight tickets (0,01€ – no, I’m not joking, the ticket was really so cheap). We get the chance to see some new places, to get an idea of the place/city and then, if we like, go back with more days.

Saturday 31st January 2009
Another short daily trip. The flight is late and so we arrive in Berlin after midday. In Alexander Platz we see the Fernsehturm (we don’t climb up, the weather is cloudy and snowing a bit), the Rathaus and the nearby St. Marien.

Then we reach the dome (also this one only outside). Cold. We decide to go to the Brandenburg Gate, and along the Unter den Linden stop we eat in a restaurant. Reached the door, surrounded by many embassies, we pass it and we go to the near Reichstag, where we would climb the dome, but the wait is pretty long.

We admire the modern buildings along the river and back up to the island of museums and we enter the Pergamon Museum to see the Pergamon Altar and the gate of Babylon, in addition to many other exhibits on display.

We leave the museum and it is now almost 6pm and we must take the subway to go to the airport at 7pm. So we return to the Reichstag, the wait has decreased, but we don’t have enough time, so we give up. Then we return to the Brandenburg Gate and from there to Alexanderplatz to return to the airport, where we have dinner, before returning home.

It was a really nice way to spend a Saturday in February, something different from the usual stuff.
